- Figure Out What You’re Doing: So, first things first, decide what you'd like to do. Are you running a consultancy? Asset management? Brokerage? Nail down exactly what you’re up to, because according to your business activity, the regulatory requirements change.
- Select Where You'd Like to Set Up Shop: Next up, you have to pick an ideal location for your business. You want to go mainland, or one of those shiny free zones like DIFC or ADGM? Each one’s got its own rules and regulations around who can own what, the cash flow you need, and who you can do business with. So, choose wisely.
- Lock Down a Business Name: Come up with a name that doesn’t sound similar to another entity and send it over to the DED (if you’re going to the mainland) or whichever free zone you’re in. The DED verifies the name, makes sure it isn’t offensive or taken, and then gives you the green light.
- Get the Initial Approvals: If you’re company is based on the mainland, you need to get approvals from the DET and the Central Bank. Free zones? Connect with DFSA or FSRA for initial approval.
- Drafting and Notarizing: Here’s where you pull together your Memorandum and Articles of Association. Get it stamped and notarized so it looks official.
- Secure an Office Space: You’ll need to rent a spot, anything from a legit office to a “flexi-desk”. If you’re a mainland resident, you need to register with Ejari; free zones have their own set of paperwork.
- File the Application and Pay the Fee: Now, gather all your documentation, MOA, lease, share certificates, into an application, pay the license fee, and cross your fingers.
- Sort Visas and Open a Bank Account: Last bit, get your investor and employee visas rolling, then open a company account. You’ll need your shiny new license, MOA, and everyone’s passports. And then, congrats, you’re in business!
- You've got to tick all those UAE AML and KYC boxes.
- Don’t forget, there’s a minimum paid-up share capital, but the number jumps around depending on what you’re doing. Some licenses require a bank guarantee. They’ll want to see you’ve got your checks and balances, internal controls, and regular audits.

Drafted MOA/AOA and share capital certificate
Tenancy contract and Ejari registration or free-zone office agreement
Business plan outlining services, target market, and financial projections
