Following steps are involved to start a fruits and vegetable trading business in Dubai.
- Choose a trade name for the company. You can opt for three names that you deem suitable for your business. You must ensure that the company name you select complies with the Dubai government's naming regulations.
- Determine the legal structure of your company.
- Select a location for your business that is ideal to set up your fruits and vegetables business.
- Apply for a license from the DET. The DET has identified fruit and vegetable trading as an activity group.
- When applying for the license, include a detailed business plan listing the activities the company plans to undertake.
- You must obtain approval from the Dubai Municipality’s food control department.
- Once you’ve obtained your license, make sure you find reliable suppliers for the product you intend to sell.
- Arrange for food products to be sourced, stored, and distributed.
The permitted activities may vary depending on the activities listed in the Dubai Municipality-approved license. A fruit and vegetable trade license may allow you to conduct the following activities:
- Import and export of fruits and vegetables
- Wholesale distribution
- Retail trading
- Re-export fruits and vegetables after importing them.
- Permitted to store fruits and vegetables in warehouses or cold storage facilities.
- Permitted to handle fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables.
The following are some of the general documents required:
- Fruits and vegetables trading license
- Fruits and vegetable company approval
- Passport copy of the shareholder or visa page copies
- Trade name registration certificate
- NOC from employer (if applicable)
Imported products must have import documents such as the following:
- Include a sea waybill (for fruits and vegetables) or an air waybill (for air cargo).
- The exporting country's regulatory authorities issue the certificate of origin and documents, or the Dubai embassy certifies them.
- The document includes a pro forma invoice and a sales-purchase contract.
- The product specification details its usage, manufacturer, importer, composition, manufacturing date, and expiry date.
- There is a sales-purchase agreement between the exporter and the exporter.
- The packing list of the exporters' goods includes fruits and vegetables.
